Head Canon:

Jade operates under the philosophy that if there is anything that can be done, it should always be done well. In turn, anything that can be done, should, needless to say, be attended to. Such was one of the many creeds pounded into her during her youngest years, and it still has as firm a hold over her decisions as it had when it was the mantra of her master. Perhaps this can be attributed as an explanation of why the Witch dedicates herself to so many causes—each of which she deems as equally important to the survival and function of all of Skaia as the next.

Far back in the day, long before freedom ever truly gained much of a meaning in her mind, Jade took to dutifully operating under her master, the former Wizard of the Green Sun. He was a stern, strict man who bore little pity for tears, whines, or temper tantrums. If Jade was to communicate dissatisfaction, she was to do so as an adult. Even when she could properly articulate her exhaustion, she went ignored. Nevertheless, Jade did not sink into the murk of self-pity. While her eyes burned for sleep and her limbs grew leaden, she paid them no mind. If Jade was to one day step into the role of a proper Witch, she would need work hard. And work those arduous hours she did. Fainting from over-exertion was not an uncommon happenstance. The burn scars of backfiring potions pepper the expanses of her extremities. Mottled, eggplant-hued bruises seemed forever present on her person thanks to a miscalculation in the control of space and velocity. Let it be known the trials weren’t for naught—Jade evolved into an immensely proficient, powerful Witch-to-Be. She can recite the entirety Wizard Becquerel’s immense tome, weave through the fabric of space, and brew the most potent of potions for whatever use she so deems necessary. Even with all of that, though, Jade still pined for what lay outside—so inviting—of the Wizard’s tower. The only things of semblance to the outdoors within the confines of the tower were the plethora of plants she attended to. Not being allowed to go outside and retrieve ingredients as she so desired, Jade had been encouraged to cultivate a garden of her own. Rapidly, the Witch-to-Be came to love that exotic, magical garden as if it were her child. Or dog. Jade would have loved to own a dog.

Freedom came with tragedy. While it was not unexpected, the Wizard of the Green Sun passed on at the ripe, old age of 174. Jade, never knowing another being outside of the guards who assured she would not leave the tower (but they all rotated—it was impossible to know any personally), took his death quite hard. For all of his stern lectures and firm disciplines, he had treated her well. The Wizard had always been happy to educate her eager mind. He had been the one to nurse her back to health whenever she was ill. In all manners of truth, he had raised her. They were bonded with blood, thanks to the ritual all Witches and Wizards of the Green Sun must endure. The carved mark printed under her left clavicle had been sealed with the liquid of his life. And then, he was gone. Jade was only nine. Still, the determination to always move forward implanted in her mind by her mentor stayed firm. Ready to take on her role as the Witch of the Green Sun in full, Jade left the tower and took to exploring as much of what she had long been held back from as she could.

The Moon of Prospit was first. As one of her many duties as Witch, she had to establish her connections with the royalty. The White King and Queen were happy to receive her, despite her youth and naiveté. She got along with the both of them well, though more so with the mindful, conscientious Queen. Their mutual love of diplomacy and equality for all would soon pave a more-easily tread path for one of Jade’s future goals: the abolishment of returning hemospectrum discrimination. But such movements would come later. In her ninth year, Jade finally met the Heir and the Page of prophecy. Both were friendly and charming young boys--one a bit more mischievous than the next--remarkably dedicated to the heavy weight of their duties. While both had always had the privilege of seeing the world of Prospit, they were still entrapped within the gilded cages of expectation. Always was there the threat of death, or the stifling presence of guards. It was, needless to say, something Jade could sympathize with. Knowing herself fully capable of protecting the Heir from harm, Jade devised a plan to sneak the boys out of the castle so as to let them see the world without constant supervision. Of course, she would be attending (she could never miss out on a chance to have fun, after all!), for protection’s sake. And so, the lasting bonds of friendship were born.

Derse came next. It was a startling contrast to all Jade had ever been privy to seeing on Prospit (well, what she’d seen of it, anyway). Perhaps she had gotten a bit ahead of herself in all of her excitement to explore the uncharted territories of the universe, what with going all the way to another planet and whatnot. Either way, Jade was not deterred! Eager to explore this majestic, dark wonderland of mystery, she headed to the moon to meet its royalty. Cool, calm, collected, and another emphasis on cool, she met the Strider Prince and Knight. Despite their exceedingly different personalities, they meshed well with their similar ideologies and Jade’s ability to nod appropriately to their nonsensical pop-culture references and expansive, meandering metaphors. They were very chill about listening to her rants about wanting a dog, so it was even.

Once returned to her native Prospit, Jade finally became acquainted with those who would become vital in her life. Jake had been so kind to introduce the lovely young Maiden of the Temple of Life. There was the young Seer, free of confinement on Derse and ready to see the world as Jade had been. It was their many parallels that allowed them something to bond over, and in time, a friendship. A dutiful Parcel Mistress with a work ethic that almost made Jade seem indolent came into her meeting one fine afternoon. And then there was a troll.

Now let it be known that Jade happens to get along swimmingly with almost everyone she meets. In the admittedly short expanse of her lifetime, the Witch hadn’t yet truly met anyone who went out of his or her way to be rude. Karkat changed that fact rather quickly. Jade found herself at wit’s end trying to remain, at the very least, decent to this young troll. Finally, her frustrations got the better of her. Jade had never known it was possible could scream so many insults until that day. Cowed by this sudden onslaught of rancorous feeling, and from herself no less, Jade retreated back home, swearing left and right she wouldn’t have a thing to do with the troll ever again. Alas, natural desire to simply know things getting the better of her, Jade found herself lurking the streets of planet Prospit, trying to find out just what had Karkat in such a bile-spewing tizzy. The hemospectrum and all that came with it became integrated into her knowledge right then. Revolted by such blatant discrimination, she found Karkat, announced her intentions of removing the hemospectrum, and marched off to have a word with the White Queen. Ranting and raving, and then finally, simply, diplomatically speaking, she convinced the White Queen to enact edicts against the hemospectrum upon all of Prospit. While there are definitely still those who act against these new laws, at least trolls knew the government was firmly against the old Alternian ways. Things slowly, slowly eased up between Jade and Karkat after that. Eager to assist in the fight against blood discrimination, Jade gave her friendly, loyal Parcel Mistress the duty of mailing their rebellious letters to the trolls of Derse.

Everything was manageable, in fact, kind of fun, back then. Then the She, Her, The Condesce, The Sea Bitch, came along. War was quickly declared—the White King had to defend, after all. Carapaces were sent to the battlefield. Jade knew that as the Witch of the Green Sun, it was her duty to protect Prospit. Thanks to this evil dictator, lives would be heedlessly lost and valuable, beloved friends would be endangered. Communications between Prospit and Derse swiftly fell to a standstill. But for every obstacle, there has to be a solution. There would be no tears when you got a bruise, or else you would not ever get a result. Such a lesson was learned when Jade was a mere toddler. No vile dictator was going to make her forget that. The young Witch decided she needed to fight the system. Employing the Parcel Mistress, she sent her on missions to Derse (disguised and protected as best as her powers allowed), giving them a chance to keep up their plans. These plans were not simply the hemospectrum now, but revolution.

Jade is determined to fight to make things right.

Physical Head Canon:

Standing at 5’5’’, Jade is slightly above the average height for a female of her age. Her limbs are lithe; always deliberate, sharp, and quick in their movements thanks to years of catching a knocked over potion jar or dodging a misfiring object from her tears in space. Her torso is almost straight, with the barely-there rounded curves of developing breasts and hips. There is no distinct presence of muscle upon her form seeing as most of the brute force she’ll ever have any need for comes from whatever magic she can conjure.

Jade has a heart-shaped face, with high cheekbones, a wide, toothy smile, and almond shaped eyes colored a near radioactive green. Not very often does Jade make a very significant effort to attend to her dark hair. More than anything, its length can be attributed to the Witch simply forgetting to schedule a due trim for it. The majority of the time, Jade appears somewhat haphazard and a bit distracted in her appearance, considering how busy she always is.

Every emotion Jade registers will immediately appear upon her face, and her actions and body language tend to correspond accordingly.

Roleplay Sample:

The near-viscous presence of brewing lavender casts its thick, lazy tendrils of scent across the expanse of potion’s chamber. Immense, plush armchairs of garish patterns stand sentinel, looming dark shadows across the bubbling cauldron of deep purple muck. Heavy velvet curtains with hues like lime allow only the barest strings of iridescent light into the oppressive room. A young woman stands before the rust-colored cauldron, hands clasped behind her back and face screwed into an expression of utmost concentration.

The potion gives a pathetic burp of a gurgle before spouting an airy bubble into the chamber’s atmosphere. The brewer’s face erupts into a shining grin, all crinkled corners of the eyes and lips pulled over her teeth. Her hands clap together several times in further expression of the female’s joy before she lurches forward, dipping a small vial into the brew.

So you deemed it time to be finished brewing, my dear potion? If I may say so, it is about time! I was fretting I may have not brewed you correctly. Not that such has happened in quite the time, but nevertheless…

The Witch trails off, lips quirking to the side in her ruminations. The brew, as if to remind her of her plans, gives off another one of its bubbles. Seeming to snap out of her daze, Jade rolls green eyes to the ceiling while giving several nods.

I understand, I understand. Busy, busy, busy! I best be off to deliver this to Parcel Mistress before she heads off on her next mission. For shame if I was late!

Head shaking from side to side, the Witch reduces the heat under the cauldron before taking several brisk steps to the curtains. Under her firm grasp, they give way to reveal the shimmering, golden cityscape of Prospit. The smile is back upon Jade’s features once again.

OOC:

Hello there! On the internet, I tend to go by the name Winnie! I am seventeen years of age, eighteen in a few short weeks (exciting, exciting!), and take up my residence in Southern California. I am fluent in English as it is the only language I actually know, despite the fact that I took five years of Spanish and seemed to have registered very little of it. I've roleplayed with several friends in close-knit gigs for something close to three years, but never anything to this extent, I'm afraid. Nevertheless, I'm a quick study and am eager to learn! I'm utterly enthralled by the prospect of getting to roleplay on a forum with so many talented people and under such a detailed and intricate premise as this AU!

Aside from that, I enjoy writing stories, reading literature and manga, playing videogames, and engaging in other habits that don't require much physical effort. While I can be a bit shy, I love making new friends and always make an effort to be courteous and kind to anyone I speak to! Also, I use gratuitous amounts of exclamation points and emotes!!!! :DDDDD

!! You really brought her to life with your description! This seems exactly like Jade, and it really shuts down the belief in some part of the fandom that Jade is just a silly, giggly, forgetful girl - it really brings into light the parts of her personality that she doesn't show very well until about Act 4 or 5 - I love it!

Also, I wanted to thank you for all of the kind comments you left on the character sheets! They were all very sweet, and I know I enjoyed reading mine!

Hope I get to RP with you!

@Nirana: Oh, thank you so much! I appreciate the fact you think I have her in character so much! ;3; It's such a pity the fandom tends to forget what a little BAMF Jade really can be! I'm really happy I could bring that to light, and that you enjoyed it!

It was my absolute pleasure! I always enjoy a good Homestuck OC, and to make one that cool while in such a detailed AU as this seems really daunting, so I was very impressed with her!

Looking forward to seeing you out on the forum! ;3
