He had finally found him. The Derse rebel's HQ was finally there for his eyes too see. Yet, he expected it to be... bigger. Maybe more grandiose, with an enormous army and the highest technology, something right out of one of those books he used to read.

It was just a basement with piles of equipement here and there. It needed to be completely re-organized, surely the leader was some sort of nobody with no knowledge of war and strategies whatsoever. He had to be. This was ridiculous, shameful even. He had to stop thinking about it but he couldn't. He looked around a little before staring at Aradia, hands on his hips, head slightly tilted to the side.

"Are you fucking kidding me? This is the Rebel's HQ? That's it? I mean look around you it's almost empty, there's no space, it's so small and pathetic!"

His lisp was heavy, he was slightly upset and didn't even bother trying to articulate properly over his protruding teeth. He had imagined a bigger movement had organised to fight the Condesce's forces. This wouldn't do, it simply wasen't enough. A single well-trained Agent could undoubtedly wipe them out in one night.

He sighed and looked at his feet. Of course there wouldn't be that many rebels, most of the highbloods were quite okay with the Empress' actions. It was beneficial to them, at least that's what they thought. They were wrong though, the voices of the deceased had told Sollux that "The Empress' wrath is blind" and that they would "Without discrimination see the death of their kind".

He slipped his shades off, rubbed the bridge of his nose with his finger and index and stuffed in shades in the inner pocket of his cloak. He glanced around one more time and spotted what seemed like robot parts in a box.

Maybe there was still hope for the resistance...

Her eyes widened as she turned towards Sollux at the mention of this being a rebel base. He definitely said 'Rebel's HQ' she was sure of it. She'd known him long enough to decipher his lisp as easily as anyone's normal speech.

"We have a rebellion?" She asked, her voice filled with wonder and awe. Concepts such as dashing rogues fighting against oppressive tyrants was the stuff of fairytales! She begin to grin beneath her face covering.

"If we have a rebellion then we can stop her! We can save the lowbloods! And the Carapaces! And the Humans! We can save them all!" She began to get rather excited as he gripped Sollux's arm with both of her hands.

"We can put an end to the madness!" She continued, her voice rising to a squeaking level before she quickly turned and wandered off to explore the room, as her short attention span demanded, practically skipping as she went to find out what exactly the contents of one of the boxes were. Frowning curiously as she pulled a robotic arm from the pile. She turned back to Sollux and Aradia.

"Hey? Is this a statue bit?" She queried, clearly having never seen a robot before in her life. She perked up. "Are we going to make statues?"

She then frowned.

"How would making statues help?"

Aradia was prepared when Sollux rounded on her. She knew the HQ was not particularly impressive. It was probably a bit of a letdown - even she had felt a bit disappointed when she'd first arrived. But she'd gotten used to the small space within a week, and now, it was practically her home. He glared at her, and she stared back defiantly. "Don't complain, Sollux. You're going to sleep here, and you're going to like it. Besides," she said, smiling, "We keep it small for a reason. Low-key means inconspicuous. So, you need to calm down," she finished, giving him a poke.

She then turned her attention to the third member of the group. Aradia watched thoughtfully as Feferi enthused and squealed delightedly, her eyes wide and her gaze wandering. Had she made a mistake in bringing the Dersite Princess to the HQ? She seemed mostly harmless, although very excitable and rather inexperienced. Aradia had a vague feeling that Feferi was honestly dedicated to the cause. And if Sollux could trust her, then so could she.

In any case, she knew that the Princess would have found her way to the HQ eventually. They'd told her. The Princess will prove vital. Aradia was only playing the messenger of fate's will. She hoped Dirk wouldn't mind, though.

She frowned a little. Dirk would mind if someone touched his robots. He was so touchy about his works in progress. Aradia decided to do some damage control. "Feferi, those are not statues! They are our leader's projects, and I do believe he would prefer if you let them be for now! I am sure he will show you around later, if you want to stay for a while."

In an attempt to gloss over the awkward moment, Aradia walked over and took Feferi's hand, smiling and lightly tugging her away from the pile of machinery. "I think it would be best if we held introductions now! We haven't yet officially met! Sollux, if you would," With a slight flick of her other hand, hidden from Feferi in the folds of her dress, Aradia sent a small screw flying at the back of Sollux's head.

Normally he would have seen it coming and stopped it last second with his powers to impress her (or both of them in this case) but not this time. The screw hit the back of his head and even made him yelp with surprise. How uncool, he needed to get it together and fast. He didn't wanna look so pathetic in front of his two friends, but he was still undermined by the previous night. At this point he had almost forgotten he drank himself to bed with that weird human the night before. Alcohol did him no good, his senses were still hazy and he felt nauseous. Getting all worked up about the Rebel's HQ surely didn't help that feeling.

Aradia was right, he needed to calm down. He hadn't seen the entire crew yet and he should give them a chance before judging them, however he couldn't help but hope they were not a bunch of lamentable fools like it was often the case in typical revolutionary movements he'd read about. He thought maybe his expectations were too high after all? Then again once more Aradia was right. Had the Rebels been too big they would have been dismantled by the Agents right away. In fact, even this small cellar should fear the Agents' perspicacity. Walls had ears on Derse, the special forces always seemed to know everyone's dirty little secrets right when it mattered the most. Low profile was safer.

"Oh yeah... introductions", He said once he finally snapped out of his thinking (with a little help from the screw), " well um Aradia, this is Feferi, I met her out in the streets a while back when I was running an errand for my stupid guardian. Fef, meet Aradia. She's pretty much my best friend since we were still just itty bitty trolls. "

He pulled the hoodie of his cloak down and smiled a little as he introcued his two friends to one another. He was actually pretty happy they finally met and hoped they would get along. The last thing he needed right this instant was some more melo-drama in his life. Everything was already complicated enough.

He chewed his lip a little when it came to his mind that it was the first time he admitted that Aradia was his "friend", let alone his best one...

Best friend?

Sollux said 'best friend', she heard that too!

Feferi was delighted, as the whimsical smile beneath her facecloth returned. She pulled down her hood, revealing her horns and the beginning of the never-ending monster that was her hair. It was tucked down the back of her collar and was already beginning to frizz. She grabbed the cloth under her eyes and tugged that down too, again displaying the sets of large sharp teeth. They seemed to have been whitened, no doubt on order of the same dresser that insisted on padding out her chest and doing her best to hide Feferi's long legs.

"Hi!" She chirped, before eagerly grabbing Aradia's hand and shaking it playfully. "It's so nice to see Sollux has had someone looking out for him all this time." She turned to look at Sollux, her grin looking a little bit more mischievous as she wrapped her arms around him again, though a bit more gently now the initial excitement had died down a little.

"I was worried Sol, I didn't know if you were alright or anything." She closed her eyes, but the smile remained. "I'm happy to sea you again Sollux, I really am."

Aradia couldn't hold back a tiny smirk as the screw landed a satisfying hit on the back of Sollux's head. It was strange that he hadn't caught it, though. She'd meant it as a small rebuke for forgetting his manners, but she hadn't expected the projectile to actually reach its target. Sollux must have been pretty tired, to let down his defenses like that. Generally, he was one of the most uptight people she knew. She made a mental note to get him to sleep soon.

Aradia maintained the sincere smile she usually wore throughout Sollux's introduction of Feferi. She couldn't wait to have some proper conversation with the princess! Without meaning to, she started tuning out a little bit when Sollux introduced her to Feferi. She knew what he'd likely say. "She's a girl I've known for a while", or maybe even "Just an old friend", if he was feeling a bit more sentimental. But then she heard the words, "best friends."

Best friends. Not in years and years of knowing Sollux so well had she heard him say that. Aradia could feel her face grow hot as she looked away. Sollux was her best friend, she knew. But he'd never said anything about his feelings toward her. He felt the same way!

She was so happy. She wished she could tell him how much it meant to her, but with Feferi here, it felt rude to do so. She settled for giving him a look, full in the face, and a small "Thank you."

Aradia was shaken from her thoughts by a blinding-bright, shark toothed smile. "Ah!" she exclaimed as Feferi snatched her hand in an expressive handshake. Finding herself, Aradia grinned back at the seadweller, shaking her hand firmly in turn. "Hi Feferi! It's so nice to meet you at last, Sollux has told me so much about you!"

"It's so nice to see Sollux has had someone looking out for him all this time."

Aradia felt the entire force of the sentence hit as Feferi turned to greet Sollux properly. Feferi didn't know she hadn't talked to him in months. Feferi and Sollux being distracted for the moment, Aradia let her face fall for a second. She had to make it up to him!

Some best friend she was.

His eyes widened with surprise as his seadweller friend pulled him into an embrace. He didn't expect all that affection within just a few minutes. He normally didn't like being touched and he hated himself for not being able to deny that he actually enjoyed it for once, that it made him feel safe and perhaps just a little less lonely. He gently pushed her back after a little while.

"Ah... yeah... I'm fine don't worry for me. You're the one who's in deep fucking trouble with this whole Princess thing."

His cheeks were in a slight tint of yellow even though he had tried to contain his blush. He turned around since he didn't want the girls to see his embarassment, pretending to fiddle with a robot joint, but his flushed ears still gave him out now that his hood was lowered.

"I actually uh... I wasen't alone for a while if you were worrying, which is really stupid by the way. You shouldn't worry for me I mean I'm a psiionic for fuck's sake! I can't take care of myself.", he told the girls, hoping it'd restore his pride from the earlier fit of embarassement and blushing. " Anyway there was this human girl... she was sort of dumb but we sorta helped eachother for a bit. "

He stopped. They didn't need to know about Roxy. No one needed to know about her, especially not if she did turn out to be the legitimate heir to the throne. He thought Feferi might be upset, plus it might put them in danger, him, the two other trolls and Roxy herself.

He let them chat for a little while, walking around and checking out what the resistance had got for themselves. It wasen't as bad as he first thought, he noticed. He tried to focus on that and try to think of what he'd do now that he had reached the HQ but his mind was too busy bothering him. He was tired, so tired. He was starting to feel irritable and a nasty migraine was starting to strain the back of his head and neck again. It kept happening lately and he couldn't figure out what triggered it.

The pain would be minor at first, creeping up on him unoticed and then growing untolerable, sometimes to the point where he would flinch to every heartbeat throbbing in his head. It had brought him to tears as a child, but he was stronger than that now. It only made him extremely irritable.

Her grinning didn't stop. Why would it? Sollux had another friend? Feferi felt harsh thinking about such things but it was true! Sollux always seemed to have trouble socialising to her and it was just....oh so reassuring that he seemed to be coping. Aradia looked lovely, and she was sure whoever this human was ,she was just as delightful!

And he was blushing! He did miss her! She knew he did. She needed to hug someone. Now.

She grabbed Aradia.

"Who was she?" Feferi asked, in a rather expected excitedly fashion, oblivious to Sollux's decision not to reveal more. "Is she tall? short?....does she like fish?" She demanded to know, never looking away from Sollux as she gripped her new friend and held her close, needing some outlet for her bottomless affection.

"Ooooh. Is she a rebel too? Do I get to meet up too?" She added, stringing off questions before receiving, and possibly not the first time she'd done so to poor Sollux.

This time around, Aradia was prepared for Feferi's sudden movement, and managed to return the hug with some grace, even though she felt herself teetering precariously on her heels. Her arms were around Feferi, but her eyes were watching over the seadweller's shoulder, searching Sollux's face. She thought she'd caught his gaze, but then he turned and started meandering around the room, his back to her.

Something was off there. Maybe she was overanalyzing, she'd just missed him so much and it reassured her to pick up all of the little cues and quirks she'd learned all those years ago - but she could swear he wasn't telling them something. She'd expected him to do some complaining about the mysterious girl first - Sollux had a lot to say on everyone, generally. But mostly she was unnerved by the vagueness of the description. Sollux hated it most when Aradia gave vague predictions, hated receiving unhelpful, oddly phrased messages from the dead. Hated it a lot.

And it was strange. Very strange. Strange because he was alone with the two people he apparently trusted most in the entire world, and he wasn't willing to tell them something, and that meant it was important. Plus, and this was difficult to admit to herself, she wanted him to trust her, she wanted to be a good and caring friend, she wanted to make up for losing him. She'd get to the bottom of this mystery!

And so, as Sollux avoided looking at either of them and Feferi chattered away happily, Aradia asked her question. "Did you get a name? I might know her." She stared a hole in the back of his head, ready to get some answers.

He raised an eyebrow at the overexcited Princess. Her consistant shark smile kept him from sounding too rude.

"Fish? Why the hell would I know that, Fef? Do humans eat fish anyway?", he said in a joking tone.

He spent half a second too much pondering on human's eating habits before he realized he would have to tell his two friends about the mysterious girl. They were combarding him with questions and he hated that. His next intervention wasen't so amuzing as the other one.

"Shut up! Both of you. I can't hear myself thinking over all your blabbering and questioning"

That wasen't quite the truth. He could hear the voices of the dead shouting over the girl's voices in his head. He wanted it to quiet down. He knew the girls meant no harm yet he couldn't help but find it ridiculous. Why would they need to know who this human girl was?

It was when Aradia told him she might know the girl that he started considering telling them more about her, starting by answering Feferi's simpler and less harmful questions.

"Um let's see...She's pretty short, shorter than both of you. Blond hair, bright eyes, smooth lips...", he blushed as he made that remark. It had slipped his lips. "I really don't know if she's a rebel or what, but she's not with the Condesce. Heck now that I think of it, she didn't even know of the Empress' invasion since she was born on Skaia. A human on Skaia, am I the only one who finds it fishy?", he mentally kicked himself for the lame fish-pun he had just made right in front of Feferi. Shame on him.

Sollux glanced at Aradia before continuing his tale.

"She says her name's Roxy."

Fef's smile vanished the second Sollux raised his voice. She didn't look worried, but as if she clicked onto a more serious mode. She held her hands together behind her back and listened. She resisted raising her hopes when Sollux blushed, the idea of him in a xenophilic relationship sounded cute, but it'd be unfair to assume.

Still cute though.

/am I the only one who finds it fishy?/

Feferi broke back into her happy mode and broke into hysterical giggling. She wrapped her right arm across her chest and used her other hand to cover her mouth as she shut her eyes and lost it.

"I'm sorry!" She squealed, but it only made the laughter worse, almost laughing over Sollux as he named the mysterious human. However the name meant nothing to her, sure it was a little funny with only four letters instead of six. She snickered one last time as she wiped her eyes from the fuchsia tears trying to escape.

"Well, she sounds nice." She said, now grinning again. "Oooooh look at you Sollux! You're becoming a right little social butterfly!" She clapped her hands excitedly. "I'm so proud of you!"

"Smooth lips?" Aradia repeated incredulously before she caught herself. At least she had said it under her breath and no one had appeared to have heard. Honestly it was because she was just surprised that he would have mentioned something like that albeit unintentionally and of course she didn't mind at all because she had no reason to.

...

Okay if she was honest with herself she minded. Because he was such a good friend or because, well, something else, she would have to figure out later. Right now she needed to hear what he had to say about Roxy.

No, he was most certainly not the only one who found it fishy! A human born on Skaia? That was extremely unlikely. Being born on Skaia still didn't explain not knowing about the Condensce's reign, not very well at least! There was almost definitely something more to this girl, and Aradia loved a mystery. She'd be on the lookout from now on!

Feferi exploded in bubbly giggles, and Aradia couldn't help but break into a huge smile - her laugh was so contagious! "Well I am glad that you managed to make some new friends without us!" she added to Feferi's comment, failing to hold back a laugh. "How did you end up meeting her?"

Feferi’s laughter startled him more than usual. He was tired alright. However, hearing her laughing made him smile a little to himself. It was somewhat comforting after all the weird things that had happened to him lately. He looked at the two girls for a brief moment. He was glad they were there. Sure they both had their little moments where he found them annoying, but being here with them made everything feel a little bit more “okay”.

He knew what the truth was though. He was scared, so scared. Scared to lose his friends, his home, the place where he grew up, heck he didn’t even truly wish something bad happened to his old carapace guardian. He felt as if he was about to lose something dear to him for the second time if he didn’t do something about it. Of course he only knew of Alternia through the voices of the deceased, but it still frightened him to think their prophecies about his current home-world could come to reality.

He snapped out of it after hearing Aradia’s voice.

“Uh… We met at the docks. She had just come all the way here from Skaia in some cramped cargo ship. She’s completely nuts I tell you. Humans sure are fucked up.”

He decided to tell her and Feferi the entire story. If he could not trust them with that then who could he trust?
He told them about their encounter near the cargo’s docks, their misadventures in the back alley with some weird hooded individual and then how they worked at the inn to stay for the night. He omitted talking about the part where he got drunk and woke up to a kiss on the forehead. They didn’t need to know that. No one did…

Feferi at first stole a quick glance at Aradia. She wondered if she really had just heard that quiver, the slightest of shakey voices when she spoke. She quickly bit her tongue. This was too adorable, it really really was. She so desperately wanted to grill everyone in the room for quadrant situations as if it was beginning to burn into her very soul.

Then Sollux began his story. It was a little longer than she expected, and sounded almost lifted from a fairy tale. Mysterious strangers, alley meetings, Sollux being a hero. She gave the Peixes shark grin. Sollux really was doing well with the ladies, wasn’t he?

Then he mentioned she’s the princess. Fef’s smile vanished as quick as it sprung up.

“She…she wants to w-what exactly? She’s…She’s coming to get me? To take my place?” She asked. Panic was beginning to gently rise in her voice. “You-you said she wants to dethrone me. Is she going to kill me? Sollux! Why didn’t you stop her!” She began to shout.

Her face began to contort to rage, and she seethed as she turned away from them. Then wrath quickly turned back to panic, which quickly turned to despair. She turned back around distraught.

“I…I need to get back. Back to the Palace. Where it’s safe.” She mumbled.

Aradia blinked. She would have to admit she was a little stunned by Feferi's unexpected outburst, although really not expecting otherwise was mostly her fault. Although it was true that Aradia had never had many highblood friends, they were generally well known for their tempers and Aradia supposed she should have seen this coming. Even so, it was more than a little bit unnerving to see Feferi swing so quickly from one extreme to the other!

She needed to take control of this situation. Feferi was looking hysterical and terrified, and Aradia could tell Sollux was stressed as well. Both of them needed to calm down before this escalated and the rest of the rebels came running, and Aradia wanted to avoid bothering them.

Feferi looked like the bigger concern at the moment, so she strode over, smiled reassuringly at the other girl, and pulled her into a hug, patting her huge head of hair. "Don't worry about anything! No one's going to come after you while you're here. After all you have Sollux and I, and both of us are pretty gifted in terms of telekinetic ability, if I do say so myself! And they might not be around right now but there are others in the HQ who would be more than happy to protect you. Besides, it is much too late to go back out on the streets! You're safer here where they can't find you, and where you are well protected, than back out on the streets at this time of night!" Aradia hoped with all her heart that Feferi was susceptive to logical reasoning.

As for Sollux, she extended her hand, spread her fingers and used telekinesis to pull up chairs for all three of them. "Why are we all standing?" she asked with a laugh. "Sorry, I've forgotten my manners! Have a seat!" she encouraged. She gave a subtle nod in Feferi's direction and a tiny shrug of the shoulders, at the same time maintaining eye contact with Sollux. Look, I know you're tired and have a lot of things on your mind, but take care of your friend, I don't know her very well and there's only so much I can do!

The story of Princess Roxy was intriguing and was definitely something Aradia wanted to discuss with Sollux, but this came first!

As soon as he felt panic rise in Feferi’s voice he knew he had made a mistake. He shouldn’t have told her about the human princess. Fef had always been quite sensitive about things in general. He should’ve stuck with his original plan: keep the explanations as vague as possible. But no, he just had to open his mouth and suddenly start being chatty about the things that happened in his life. He never used to do that; he would normally keep to himself as much as possible.

It was different lately. He had been feeling like he needed to confide in a little more. So far, it had only led to more and more complicated situations. Now he had to calm Feferi down and convince her she was perfectly safe here with them. That wouldn’t be an easy task…

He took a deep breath and massaged the bridge of his nose with his fingers.

“Okay… Okay we’re not going to have any of that freaking out right now. Aradia’s right let’s just sit down and calm our asses for now.”

He knew that wasn’t helping at all. Since the very first day he’d met her, he had been a little bit clumsy with words around Feferi. Well, to be honest, he was clumsy with words around everyone, it was just worse around the fish princess. However he still trusted that she knew how to handle his moods by now. He reached out for his seadweller friend’s hand and gently led her towards the table.

“Listen, Fef, Roxy isn’t a bad person. I don’t think she’s looking to murder anyone, she’s just confused about where she’s from. I mean who wouldn’t be if they were in her place? Don’t you sometimes wonder what Alternia was like? It’s kind of the same thing I guess…”

He knew Roxy’s situation was a little bit different than theirs, but it did hold some similarities. Not knowing where you’re from and what your homeland is like can be tormenting. Sollux knew though. He knew how life had been on Alternia, he had seen it all in weird dreams and the voices of the dead would chant it to him in his head constantly. Aradia knew as well…

“Just try not to worry over that. I know it sounds like it sucks but at least spend the night here. Like Aradia said, it’s not safe out there at this time, you’ll end up in more trouble than if you stay here. The Agents are everywhere lately.”
